| The six component Force Measurement
System (FMS) comprises strain-gauged links
arranged in a matrix formation which incorporates
an axle socket. The FMS is mounted at the
front-end of the loading carriage, as shown in
the picture, and measures six axes of forces and
moments including Radial Load, Side Force, Drag
Force and Brake Torque. Measurement of forces at the
"front-end" eliminates the effects of
carriage inertia, and in terms of control leads
to a substantial reduction in load overshoot
problems often encountered with conventional
"in-line" load measurement systems.
